What is a care training course?

Care training courses are training sessions for people who provide care at home for those in need of care. They provide you with basic knowledge on all aspects of care at home. Trained care professionals will show you, for example, how to carry and lift in a way that protects your back. You can take care training courses in a group, as one-to-one training at home or as an online course.

What will you learn in a care training course?

The topics covered in care training courses are very varied – similar to care itself. You can choose from the following topics:

Basic knowledge of care at home

Back-friendly techniques for repositioning, lifting and carrying

Useful information on various conditions such as dementia and stroke

Self-care for family carers

How much does the course cost?

SBK will cover the full cost for you. This means you can concentrate fully on your care training course.

What are the eligibility criteria for a care training course?

Provided you are caring for a family member or someone you know who requires care, you are eligible to take part in a care training course.

How to obtain a care training course:

First, find a care training course of your choice. Care training courses for family members are offered by many providers (e.g. Caritas, Johanniter, Arbeiterwohlfahrt, etc.), care services, hospitals or rehabilitation clinics, adult education centres or online providers. You can find these providers online by searching for ‘care training courses’.

Once you have completed a care training course, please ask the course provider to issue you with a certificate of attendance. The easiest way to do this is to upload it, together with the invoice, to

We will transfer the course fee to the course provider’s account within a few days. That’s all you need to do – we’ll take care of the rest.
