The system for assessing care needs
A person’s need for care is classified into five care levels. The assessment is carried out by the Health Insurance Medical Service during a home visit. The degree of independence is assessed using a points system across six different areas of life, known as
Care levels 1 to 5 at a glance:
The lowest care level. The person is still predominantly independent. (12.5 to under 27 points)
The person is no longer independent in several modules (personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, etc.). (27 to under 47.5 points)
The person is predominantly dependent in many modules (personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, etc.). (47.5 to under 70 points)
The person is severely restricted in their independence across all modules. (70 to under 90 points)
The highest care level. The person is dependent in all modules and requires intensive care. (90 to 100 points)
