Digital health applications (DiGA)
Digital companions to provide support during illness
Digital diaries for diabetes patients, migraine trackers, or apps to support high blood pressure treatment: more and more people are using digital health applications, or DiGAs for short. DiGAs are certified medical devices for the detection, monitoring, treatment, and alleviation of diseases or disabilities. Under certain conditions, insured persons are entitled to healthcare apps under the Digital Care Act. These can be prescribed by a doctor or psychotherapist or approved by the SBK upon request.
What exactly are DiGAs?
DiGAs are apps and web applications that are certified as medical devices and listed in the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices' directory of reimbursable digital health applications. Here you will also find all further information on the individual DiGAs.
When are you entitled to a DiGA?
If you are insured with SBK and meet certain requirements, you are generally entitled to the DiGAs listed in the directory of digital health applications.
Your treating practice can issue you with a prescription for the DiGA. The practice will check whether the relevant diagnosis for the DiGA is available and whether there are any reasons that would prevent the use of the DiGA.
Alternatively, SBK may also approve the use of the DiGA after an assessment, even without a doctor's prescription. To do this, please let us know which DiGA you would like to use and what your diagnosis is.
How to get a DiGA
If you received your prescription electronically, you can access it in your SBK electronic patient record (ePA) or the e-prescription app. The app provides instructions for the next steps to redeem your prescription.
Simply let us know via Meine SBK which DiGA you would like to use and what your diagnosis is.
