Sometimes a child is announced unexpectedly. Not for all woman a pregnancy is a joyful experience - for some, it is accompanied by fears and serious problems. In such cases, we recommend seeking counseling. Pregnancy conflict counseling can help discuss concerns and make a viable decision.

We cover the costs for the counseling. The procedure itself we cover if it is medically or criminologically indicated (e.g., due to a sexual offense). Such a procedure can be done on an outpatient or inpatient basis. You can find more information from the counseling centers listed at the bottom of this page. If the pregnancy is terminated at the woman’s own request, it is usually an illegal but non-punishable abortion.

If the abortion is performed at your own request, it is considered an illegal abortion. However, it remains non-punishable if carried out within twelve weeks after conception. Additionally, counseling must have taken place at least three days before the procedure at a recognized facility (issued, for example, by AWO, Pro Familia, the Diakonie, or a doctor recognized for counseling). As proof, you will receive a certificate from the counseling center, which you then present to the doctor’s office performing the abortion.
