Outpatient surgery for children
Helping your child recover quickly in a familiar environment
Children often recover faster after surgery when they are in a familiar setting, which also provides reassurance for parents. For certain diagnoses, outpatient surgery for children is therefore the best option. Modern endoscopic examination and surgical techniques allow for a gentle approach. Your child can usually go home just a few hours after the outpatient procedure. At an SBK partner clinic, you can rest assured that your child will be treated in a quality-assured facility by experienced medical professionals.
Procedure for outpatient surgery in children:
Before the surgery: Together with the pediatrician responsible for outpatient pediatric surgery, you decide whether a surgical procedure is necessary. When working with an SBK-affiliated physician, you arrange the date of the operation together. Please contact your personal SBK consulant beforehand – we are happy to help you find the right surgery center. After preliminary examinations, you and your child will be informed about the upcoming surgery and anesthesia. Any remaining questions can also be addressed on the day of the surgery.
Immediately after the surgery: Your child will spend a short time in the recovery room. Before you leave together, the attending physician will conduct a thorough check-up. You will receive the complete surgical report as well as any necessary medications and aids. Follow-up care and check-ups in the days after surgery will be handled either by the operating physician or by your child’s pediatrician.
Getting well: If you are employed and cannot go to work because you need to care for your child after outpatient surgery, you may be eligible for child sickness benefits. Please discuss this with your personal SBK consultant.
