Incapacity to work (eAU)
Save yourself time with the eAU
The electronic certificate of incapacity to work, or eAU for short, is your sick note in digital form. Medical practices can send the eAU directly to us online. This makes it much easier for you and saves you time and postage costs. It is important that you still report your illness to your employer or the Federal Employment Agency as usual. Your employer or the Federal Employment Agency can then request the eAU from us and will also receive the sick leave periods digitally.
View the status of your sick note in the Meine SBK app
In the Meine SBK app, you can view the electronic sick notes that have been sent to you in the My Transactions section. Medical practices send these at least once a day, so you will be able to see the eAU no later than the day after it is issued. Further information on transactions and status can be found here.

Neither the name of the doctor nor the diagnosis is transmitted to your employer or the Federal Employment Agency. In this case, the eAU only includes the following information:
Even with the electronic sick note, you will still receive a paper printout. This is for your own records. You do not need to send anything to us, as the transmission is done digitally directly by your medical practice.
We send all periods to your employer or the Federal Employment Agency, including any that overlap. When reporting back to the company, we include any differing start dates of the incapacity to work.
In the case of multiple employments with different employers (e.g., main job and a mini-job), each employer is authorized to request the incapacity to work data if certain conditions are met. These are:
Currently, there is no electronic certificate of incapacity to work (eAU) for privately insured employees. These employees must continue to submit their sick notes in paper form themselves.
