Rehabilitation treatment
The best way to regain strength after surgery or a long illness
Rehabilitation supports you as you recover from an illness, surgery, or injury. It helps you gradually regain your confidence and strength for everyday life. During rehabilitation, or rehab for short, you receive targeted therapies and opportunities to be active. In addition, you receive individualized care during rehab.
Types of Rehabilitation
In general, we distinguish between medical rehabilitation and follow-up rehabilitation.
Both types can be provided on an outpatient or inpatient basis, depending on medical necessity.
Cost bearers
In principle, the following institutions may be responsible for covering the costs of rehabilitation:
Application
Rehabilitation must always be applied for in advance. Before submitting an application, it is best to talk to your doctor. In this consultation, you will find out whether and when rehabilitation is suitable for you.
For medical rehabilitation, the application process differs depending on the cost bearer:
If it is follow-up rehabilitation, the hospital’s social services department will assist you with the application.
Coverage of costs for treatment, travel, accommodation and meals
We cover the costs of medically necessary treatment and meals. For inpatient measures, we also cover the costs of your accommodation. We also contribute to the costs for up to two pieces of luggage.
Regulations depending on the means of transport (for outbound and return journeys):
For reimbursement or direct coverage of the costs, please send us the form enclosed with the approval letter along with any available travel receipts. Information about the transport service will be provided together with the approval letter.
Co-payments
Depending on the cost bearer and the type of rehabilitation, a personal contribution may apply. This co-payment applies to persons aged 18 and older when we are the cost bearer:
With our co-payment calculator, you can quickly and easily find out the maximum amount you need to pay in co-payments per year.
If you have already made many co-payments in a year, it may be worthwhile to apply for co-payment exemption. More information can be found on the
