Home help
If you need help around the house due to illness
If your health prevents you from managing your household or caring for yourself or your child due to health reasons, we are here to help. We cover the costs of the support you need and assist you in finding and applying for a suitable household helper tailored to your individual situation. You decide whether a family member takes over the tasks or if we provide a professional household assistant. This allows you to focus on your recovery.
Requirements and scope of home help
We can support you in various areas, provided that no one in your household can take over these tasks.
For this purpose, we require a medical certificate confirming that, due to an acute serious illness or an acute worsening of your illness, you are unable to continue managing your household. You can obtain the form in Meine SBK or from your personal SBK consultant.
In this case, we will provide a household helper for up to 4 weeks.
If a child living in your household has not yet reached the age of 14, household support can be provided for up to 52 weeks.
We can also finance home help. A medical certificate confirming that you are unable to manage the household due to pregnancy or childbirth is required. Templates are available in Meine SBK or from your SBK consultant.
1. Home help with children in the household
If at least one child in your household is under 14 at the start of home help, or is disabled and requires support, we provide home help as long as:
2. Home help without children
If you are unable to manage your household due to an acute severe illness or worsening of a disease, we provide home help for up to 4 weeks, regardless of whether children live in your household.
3. Home help during pregnancy
If your doctor certifies that you are unable to manage your household due to pregnancy or childbirth, we will cover the costs of home help, even if no children live in your household.
How much does SBK cover?
If you arrange a household helper yourself who is not related to you, such as a neighbor, we will cover up to €12.25 per hour. We are also happy to support you in finding a suitable household helper.
If your spouse or a person related to you by blood or marriage up to the second degree helps you with household tasks, we can also provide financial support:
Co-payment for home help
If you receive a home helper from us, you only pay a co-payment of 10%, with a minimum of €5 and a maximum of €10 per day. No co-payment is required for assistance due to pregnancy or childbirth.
Under certain conditions, you can be exempted from co-payments. More information is available on our
How to get home help
1. Requirements: Before applying for home help, please check the following questions to make sure the requirements are met: Are you insured with SBK and in need of home help due to illness? Do you manage your household? Are there children under 14 living in your household, or do you live alone and require support due to illness? Is there no one else in your household who could temporarily manage the household?
2. Application: If all requirements are met, please obtain a medical certificate and apply for home help easily via Meine SBK. You can also submit the medical certificate later. The template for the medical certificate can be downloaded from Meine SBK.
3. Approval & hiring: Once the medical requirements are confirmed, we will approve your home help. You can then hire a home helper. You decide who provides the help. We cooperate with many organizations, such as welfare agencies or municipal social service stations. If needed, your personal SBK consultant will be happy to assist you in finding a suitable home helper.
4. Costs & reimbursement: The costs of the home helper are settled directly with us. If we have organized the home help for you, you pay the co-payment directly to us. If you organize the home help yourself, we reimburse the costs, taking your co-payment into account. If you receive an invoice, simply upload it to Meine SBK. Alternatively, you can send the invoice by post. Here you can find our address and a prepaid envelope.
