Therapeutic Treatments
To enhance your personal well-being
Therapeutic treatments include physiotherapy, podiatric treatments, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. These are medical services that require a doctor's prescription and are carried out by specially trained therapists. In the
The most common treatments are:
Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy includes, among other things, therapeutic exercises, lymphatic drainage, massages as well as heat and cold applications. Medical professionals have the option of issuing a so-called blank prescription. Depending on the indication, the therapist then decides on the selection of therapeutic remedies. He or she also determines how frequently the treatment takes place and how long it lasts. This new regulation initially applies only to conditions affecting the shoulder joint.
Speech therapy: Speech therapy treats, among other things, voice, speech and swallowing disorders, for example stuttering.
Occupational therapy: Occupational therapy supports and assists people of all ages who have difficulties with everyday activities due to illness, disability or age. The aim of occupational therapy is to increase the independence of those affected. The goal is to enable them to cope with daily life at work, school and within the family as independently as possible. Medical professionals have the option of issuing a so-called blank prescription. Depending on the indication, the therapist then decides on the selection of therapeutic remedies. He or she also determines how frequently the treatment takes place and how long it lasts. This new regulation initially applies to diseases of the spine, joints and limbs (with motor-functional impairments), including certain mental disorders as well as addiction-related and dementia-related conditions.
Podiatric therapy (foot care): Podiatric treatments are intended to prevent pathological changes to the foot as a result of diabetes mellitus, neurological diseases and spinal cord damage. The therapy includes, for example, the treatment of thickened calluses or toenails. Medical foot care is provided by licensed podiatrists. The treatment of an ingrown toenail is also a statutory benefit. It can be carried out in podiatric facilities as well as in outpatient medical practices (predominantly in the field of surgery).
Long-term need for therapeutic treatments
The long-term need for therapeutic treatments applies to individuals who require treatments like physical therapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy due to severe functional or structural physical impairments.
Prescriptions for long-term therapeutic treatments are generally only possible for specific, severe conditions, such as congenital malformations or cancer.
If it is medically determined that your condition does not fall under these severe categories but your limitations could be comparable, we are happy to review your application for long-term therapeutic treatments.
You can easily submit your application for long-term therapeutic treatments online. Use the Meine SBK app or the web version at meine.sbk.org. This way, your application will reach us immediately, saving you both time and postage.
Even without our confirmation of long-term therapeutic needs, treatments can still be prescribed by your doctor if they are medically necessary. In this case, the prescription will follow the usual process, without the need for long-term therapeutic treatment approval. Always consult with your doctor's office regarding your personal therapeutic needs.
