Hospital treatment
With SBK, you have optimal cover for inpatient stays in hospital
If you are scheduled for a hospital stay or are already undergoing inpatient treatment, you want to get back on your feet quickly. We support you in this by covering the costs of your medically necessary inpatient treatment at the hospital – without any limits. This includes all services that you require medically at the hospital: medical treatment, nursing care, provision of medication, remedies, and aids, accommodation, and meals.
What costs does the SBK cover?
We cover the costs of your medically necessary treatment without any limits. To do so, present your SBK health insurance card at the hospital.
From the age of 18, you contribute to the costs of inpatient hospital stays with a co-payment for a maximum of 28 days per year – this is regulated by law. This co-payment amounts to 10 euros per day. You pay this amount directly to the hospital after your discharge. No co-payment is generally required for inpatient childbirth.
Here you will find further information on the coverage of travel costs and the requirements for domestic help.
How to get hospital treatment:
If you require hospital treatment, your doctor will usually refer you to a suitable clinic. Simply present your SBK health insurance card there. You do not need prior approval from us.
There is one exception in the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg: On the day of admission to the hospital, you must present confirmation of cost coverage from your health insurance company. This confirmation must have been issued no earlier than 14 days prior to admission to hospital treatment.
