With outpatient surgery, you can return home after the procedure and recover in your familiar surroundings. Outpatient surgery is now just as safe as inpatient surgery. Before the surgery

First, you will be informed about the possible risks at the partner clinic. In addition, a specialist will provide you with comprehensive and continuous care throughout the entire process.

Directly after the operation

Depending on the type of operation and the anaesthesia, after an outpatient procedure you will spend some time in a recovery room. Once you have been medically examined, your circulation is stable again and no other complications occur, you may return home. All necessary medication, such as painkillers, as well as aids like walking supports, will be provided to you at the time of discharge.

In addition, you will receive the report on the outpatient operation as well as the complete discharge documents for further care by your general practitioner or specialist practice. If short-term inpatient care with an overnight stay is required, this can also be arranged by the practice clinic.

Getting well

Someone should be available to assist you during the first 24 hours after your discharge. The healing process will be monitored continuously—either at the clinic where you had your surgery or by your family doctor or specialist.

During this time, the surgeon will work closely with your family doctor or specialist, for example, to check your wound or perform any necessary follow-up examinations.

It is precisely this advantage—optimal monitoring in familiar surroundings—that makes outpatient surgery so valuable. Should complications arise, you can contact your doctor at any time. If you also need follow-up physiotherapy, selected facilities are available to you.

Unlike with inpatient hospital stays, you do not need to make any additional payments for outpatient surgery. For outpatient surgery, simply present your SBK health insurance card at the doctor's office or clinic where the surgery will take place.
