Early detection of colon cancer with the occult blood test
Everything you need to know about the stool test for colorectal cancer early detection
The fecal occult blood test is one of the recommended early detection examinations for colorectal cancer screening. The stool test (iFOB test) checks whether hidden (occult) blood is present in the stool. Blood in the stool may be an indication of cancer or its precursors.
Who can receive a test?
Women and men aged 50 and over can take the test every two years if no colonoscopy has been performed.
Once a colonoscopy has been carried out, the next entitlement to a colonoscopy or a stool test only arises again after 10 years.
For individuals aged 35 and over with an increased risk of colorectal cancer, SBK also offers the option of a stool test as an additional benefit. You can find more information and details on how to use this offer on the page Colorectal cancer screening at home.
