Prostate cancer screening
Information about prostate cancer screening
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men. For this reason, it is very important for men to address the issue of screening. An annual digital rectal examination of the prostate by a urologist is recommended for all men aged 45 and over. Prostate cancer usually only occurs in older men, so early detection screening is not recommended for younger men. If you have any symptoms, you can see your doctor at any time to have them checked out. In this case, it is no longer an early detection screening, but a normal medical treatment.
What happens during the examination:

How to get early detection screening for prostate cancer:

If prostate cancer is suspected: MpMRI
If prostate cancer is suspected, medical staff will carry out additional further examinations. The patient’s individual medical history will be taken and, if necessary, a blood test for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) will be carried out.
Imaging techniques can be useful in further clarifying the suspicion of cancer, such as multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). This mpMRI can provide important information about the carcinoma and it serves as a supplement and basis for decision on further therapy.
The prerequisites for mpMRI are a digital rectal examination, an ultrasound scan and a PSA test. An mpMRI can also be performed if the systematic biopsy did not reveal any findings and cancer is still suspected. If an mpMRI is appropriate for you, your urologist will refer you to a radiology practice. They will then carry out the examination.
We will cover the one-time cost of the mpMRI at participating medical practices and clinics. The findings will then be sent to your urology practice.
