Additional family insurance

Comprehensive protection for your children with the family plan

With SBK, your children are usually covered by your insurance free of charge from the outset and can—like you—take full advantage of all benefits. To optimally supplement this statutory health coverage, you can take out supplementary family insurance for your children. Guarantee your children the best healthcare with the special family rates we have developed together with our partner ARAG – at exclusive conditions for you as an SBK customer. Choose between basic and comprehensive coverage: both rates include all children up to the age of 21.

Supplementary insurance for families – your benefits

  • You get our partner's family rate at a lower price than on the market. This means you pay a monthly premium of just €12.80 for all children in your household on the SBK Family Extra rate, or €37.39 on the SBK Family Extra Plus rate.
  • You benefit from the tariff's services without a waiting period.*
  • One premium for all children living in your household: additional children can be insured easily and at no extra cost.
  • You can get additional protection for your family without a health check.
  • If you receive child sickness benefit from SBK, we will forward this information to ARAG free of charge with your consent. You will then receive an additional child sickness benefit of €15 from ARAG.
  • The tariff ends automatically when the youngest child turns 21.

    • *This does not apply to planned or already started treatments, with the exception of prenatal classes for men.

    What family rates offer

    The SBK Family Extra plan offers basic coverage. This plan reimburses you for many different additional services, such as childbirth-related services or vision aids, providing solid protection for your children.

    For more comprehensive protection, there is the SBK Familie extra plus tariff. If you regularly take your children to a naturopath or want your children to have transparent braces for orthodontic treatment, for example, then this tariff is the right one for you.

    With both plans, you receive a daily child sickness benefit of €15 from ARAG in addition to the SBK child sickness benefit.

    Why is private supplementary insurance worthwhile for families?

    The scope of benefits covered by statutory health insurance (GKV) is determined by law. This means that SBK benefits for children and adolescents are more comprehensive than those for adult insured persons, but certain medically unnecessary benefits cannot be covered by SBK. Supplementary insurance coverage tailored to the individual needs of children and adolescents is therefore advisable. The SBK Familie extra and SBK Familie extra plus tariffs are tailor-made and cover this individual insurance protection in important areas.
