SBK Healthcare Card with PIN and PUK

  • What are PIN and PUK?

    With your PIN, you have access to the digital applications Meine SBK, the SBK electronic patient record with integrated e-prescription function, and the e-prescription app.

    Especially if you lose your login credentials for these digital services, you can quickly and easily re-identify yourself using your PIN and your SBK healthcare card. Losing your login credentials requires a reset of your SBK Account, which temporarily limits your access to the convenient online services. Re-identification ensures that you regain full access to all services.

    In addition, you can use your PIN to store emergency data or an electronic medication plan on your SBK healthcare card.

    The PUK is only required if the PIN is entered incorrectly three times.

     

    How do I receive a PIN?

    You will receive your PIN and PUK after completing a one-time identification process in Meine SBK or the SBK electronic patient record. This is necessary and mandatory – it ensures that you alone have access to your sensitive data.

    What identification options are available?

    You can conveniently complete your identification from home online in Meine SBK. The easiest way to do this is in the Meine SBK app, where you will be guided through the process step by step.

    You’re not using Meine SBK yet? Then download the app now and register.

    You can also complete your identification in person at an SBK branch office. Simply schedule an appointment with your personal SBK consultant. You can find the relevant contact details in the SBK Consultant Search.

    Please bring your ID card, passport or residence permit with photo, as well as your most recent SBK healthcare card to your appointment.

    Would you like to use the SBK electronic patient record (ePA) app? Then you can also complete your identification directly in the ePA app. You can find all the information you need under SBK electronic patient record.

    Once identification has been successfully completed, your PIN and PUK will be generated and sent to your home address by mail within two weeks. 

    Important note

    Please keep your PIN safe, as only one PIN can be created for the SBK healthcare card at a time. If you lose your SBK healthcare card or the associated PIN, you will need a new SBK healthcare card. As soon as you receive your new SBK healthcare card and register it in Meine SBK or the SBK electronic patient record, a new PIN will automatically be sent to you by mail within two weeks.

    How to change your PIN

    You can change your PIN yourself at any time – directly in these apps:

    SBK electronic patient record app

    Choose ‘Profile’ (icon) > Your name > Change SBK healthcare card PIN

    E-prescription app

    Choose ‘Settings’ > Select preferred PIN

    All information and download links for the e-prescription app

    Requirements for changing the PIN:

  • SBK healthcare card
  • CAN/access number (6-digit number at the top of your SBK healthcare card)
  • Current PIN
  • After entering this information, the card will be scanned, and you can set a new 6- to 8-digit PIN of your choice.

    Frequently asked questions

    Do you still have your PUK? Then you can find the answer under “PIN blocked”

    If you no longer have your PUK, you will need a new SBK healthcare card, because each SBK healthcare card has exactly one associated PIN and PUK. If both PIN and PUK are lost, you can request a new SBK healthcare card in Meine SBK.

    Your new SBK healthcare card will be delivered within 14 days.

    You will receive your new PIN once you confirm receipt of the new SBK healthcare card in Meine SBK or in the SBK electronic patient record:

  • Log in.
  • Enter the last 6 digits of the card’s identification number.
  • Within 14 days, you will receive a new PIN letter by mail.
  • The query does not appear? To activate the input field for the last 6 digits of the card’s identification number, you must have an active SBK Account with two-factor authentication. If your Account only uses single-factor authentication—meaning the one-time identification during device registration was not successfully completed, the input option will not appear.
    If you still want to receive the PIN/PUK, please complete one of the secure identification methods or contact the Meine SBK support team.

    A secure identification process is required before a PIN can be issued for the SBK healthcare card. For children under 16, identification must take place in person at an SBK branch office.

    As the legal guardian, please bring the following documents:

  • ID card or SBK healthcare card of the guardian
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Child’s SBK healthcare card
  • After identification, you will receive an activation code for your child. Enter this code in the SBK electronic patient record app or in Meine SBK (use possible from age 15). After that, full app functionality is available, and you will receive the child’s PIN for the SBK healthcare card by mail within 14 days.

    Alternatively, if you wish to use only the gematik e-prescription app for your child, the PIN will be initiated directly at the SBK branch office and sent to you by mail within 14 days.

    If you entered your PIN for the SBK healthcare card incorrectly too many times and it has been blocked, you can unblock it using your PUK:

  • in the SBK electronic patient record app
  • in the gematik e-prescription app
  • in a doctor’s practice
  • If none of these options work or if you no longer have your PUK, you will need a new SBK healthcare card, as the PIN is issued only once per card. You can request a new SBK healthcare card in Meine SBK. You will receive the new card within up to 14 days.

    As soon as you receive a new SBK healthcare card, your previous PIN becomes invalid.

    You will receive the new PIN for your new SBK healthcare card once you confirm receipt of the card in Meine SBK or in the SBK electronic patient record:

  • Log in.
  • Enter the last 6 digits of the card’s identification number.
  • Within 14 days, you will receive a new PIN letter by mail.
  • Request a new SBK healthcare card
