Pregnancy-Plus: budget of up to €300 for additional benefits during pregnancy

With our Pregnancy-Plus budget, you can claim up to €300 for additional benefits and services. We want to support you and your family by providing coverage beyond the standard prenatal care. Find out below which benefits and services you can use your budget for.

Your reassurance: additional check-ups

We want you to feel well looked after to get some piece of mind during your pregnancy. You can therefore take advantage of the following additional examinations as part of your Pregnancy-Plus budget, if desired:

This test shows whether the pregnant woman has been infected with toxoplasmosis and could therefore infect the unborn baby. Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by parasites. It is considered harmless for adults, but toxoplasmosis pathogens can cause developmental damage in unborn babies, including miscarriage.

Infection usually occurs from contact with cats or through food – for example, raw meat or unwashed fruit or vegetables. The toxoplasmosis test determines whether the pregnant woman has already produced antibodies against the infectious disease. This antibody testing is normally conducted by a laboratory on behalf of your gynaecologist.

This test shows whether the pregnant woman has been infected with the cytomegalovirus. The first infection with this virus rarely causes any symptoms, so the disease often goes undetected. However, if the immune system is already weakened, the infection manifests itself as symptoms of a cold or flu-like infection. In healthy people, the body create antibodies, resulting in lifelong immunity. An acute infection is only dangerous in pregnancy, as the pathogens can cross the umbilical cord to the unborn child. This can lead to miscarriage or damage to the child.

The group B streptococcus test reveals whether the subject has been infected with group B streptococcus. Group B streptococci settle in the vagina and bowel, so pregnant women may transfer the bacteria to their child during birth. It only makes sense to have the test carried out shortly before birth, so that the pregnant woman can be treated with antibiotics if necessary. This treatment is still possible a few hours before childbirth. If the child shows signs of infection, antibiotics may also be given to the newborn.

Slapped cheek syndrome and chickenpox are common childhood illnesses. An infection should be avoided as far as possible during pregnancy, as babies cannot yet form their own antibodies. Slapped cheek syndrome and chickenpox are caused by viruses and are transmitted from person to person as an airborne infection. As a result, most people in Germany already have the antibodies for these diseases.

Coverage for supplementary medication

During pregnancy, iodine, folic acid, magnesium and iron are among the most important nutrients and minerals for mother and baby. That’s why we reimburse these four medications purchased from a pharmacy within the Pregnancy-Plus budget, if desired.

Important information about reimbursement:

  • The costs of iodine, folic acid, magnesium and iron as single or combination drugs are reimbursed.
  • You need a confirmation of medical necessity from your doctor.
  • You submit the pharmacy invoice to us.
  • Coverage for supplementary medication: birth preparation course

You can use part of your €300 budget for a birth preparation course with a participating midwife. We will cover the costs for you as the expecting mother as well as for your partner or another person of your choice.

Coverage for supplementary medication: on-call midwife service

They are there for you in person during childbirth: your midwife. Arrange an on-call midwife service from the 37th week of pregnancy. This means that your midwife is available around the clock during the crucial phase and that you can rely on personalised care during childbirth. Within your flexible €300 budget, we will cover the cost for an approved participating midwife chosen by you.

You can find out what other costs we reimburse for midwives and how best to find a participating midwife here.

Mummy-Bonus: up to €10 bonus for prenatal care and postnatal exercise

We care about your health during and after pregnancy. With the Mummy-Bonus, you receive up to €10 for:

  • A visit to your gynaecological practice for prenatal care (€5)
  • Attending a postnatal exercise class (€5)

Frequently asked questions about SBK Family-Plus

The costs of iodine, folic acid, magnesium and iron as single or combination drugs can be reimbursed as part of Pregnancy-Plus. Only the costs for medicine you have bought in a pharmacy can be reimbursed. Please remember to submit a private prescription from your doctor as well.

Reimbursement for medicines as part of Pregnancy-Plus is only possible during your pregnancy.

Before and after your pregnancy, your doctor can invoice us directly for the appropriate medicines using your SBK healthcare card. Your doctor will decide which medicines are important for you.

The following documents are important in order to be reimbursed during pregnancy:

  • Confirmation of medical necessity from your doctor (private recipe)
  • Pharmacy invoice.
  • You must also be insured with SBK.

As the Parent-Baby-Bonus is specifically intended for your child, we can only grant the bonus as soon as your baby is insured with us. Little tip: a baby first-aid class is useful after the birth of the child, as you can practise hand movements directly on the child.
