Midwife services

All midwife services – including grants for on-call services – as an extra service from SBK

A midwife is a valuable help for expectant parents during pregnancy, at the birth and in the first few weeks afterwards. Midwives will support pregnant women with all the concerns and questions during this exciting time. As a pregnant woman, you are even legally entitled to care from a midwife. The SBK will cover the costs. We also support you with other strong extra benefits - such as the subsidy for midwife on-call service. So that you can start your family life with complete peace of mind.

Midwife services – your SBK benefits

  • The participating midwife will invoice us directly for their services. All you have to do is show your SBK health care card and we’ll do the rest.
  • The on-call midwife service in the SBK Babyglück is covered up to 150 euros to help you deal with the financial costs of pregnancy.
  • Your personal consultant will help you find a participating midwife.
  • Midwife services

Midwives support you with any questions you may have relating to your pregnancy. They will provide you with information on the stages of pregnancy, birth, postnatal care, breastfeeding and how to look after your baby. They can also advise you on matters such as the best way to deal with pregnancy-related problems, what you need to be aware of in terms of your diet and how to relax. As an alternative to a gynaecologist, your midwife can also carry out certain health checks during your pregnancy. You can get in touch with your midwife in person at their practice, over the phone or even have them visit you at home.

When the time comes to give birth, your midwife will accompany you through the entire process – in a hospital, birth centre or your own home. You can even agree on what’s known as an on-call service with your chosen midwife for the final five weeks of your pregnancy. This gives you the security of knowing that your personal companion will be right by your side when the special moment comes. As part of the SBK-Babyglück, we cover up to €150 of the cost of this service.

Once your baby is born, your midwife will support you throughout your postnatal period and advise you on matters such as breastfeeding and nutrition. They will carry out the initial examinations on your child immediately after the birth (U1), perform regular weight checks on newborns and also keep an eye on their umbilical cord. What’s more, they can also talk you through some effective postnatal strengthening exercises.

Here's how to take advantage of midwife services

Participating midwives invoice us directly for all services performed during and after the pregnancy – all you have to do is show your SBK health care card.

Contact your personal consultant for help with finding a participating midwife. Alternatively, you can find your own midwife with the Online midwife search or at ammely.de. Please be aware that this directory also includes midwives who are not entitled to invoice SBK. With this in mind, we recommend asking your midwife whether they are able to cover their costs through SBK as a participating midwife before your first appointment.

If you want to use the on-call midwife service, you will be given an invoice by your midwife, as this is a private service. In the first instance, you pay this invoice yourself. However, we will cover the costs of the on-call participating midwife service up to the value of 150 euros. Please send the invoice via mail: you can find our postal address and a prepaid envelope here. Or email it directly to your personal consultant. You can find contact information here. We will then transfer the reimbursement amount directly to your account within a few days.
