Your PIN and PUK for the SBK healthcare card

How to get the access code for additional applications

What do you need the PIN and PUK for?

The PIN gives you access to the digital services Meine SBK, SBK electronic patient record and the e-prescription (E-Rezept) app.

If you lose your access data for these digital services in particular, you can use your PIN and your SBK healthcare card to identify yourself again very quickly and easily. If you lose your access data, you will need to reset your account, which means you will only have limited access to the practical online services. Re-identification ensures that you regain full access to the services.

You can also use your PIN to store emergency data or an electronic medication plan on your SBK healthcare card.

The PUK is only required if the PIN has been entered incorrectly three times.

How will you get your PIN?

You will receive your PIN and PUK after the one-off identification process in Meine SBK or in the SBK electronic patient record app. This is necessary and mandatory to ensure that only you have access to your sensitive data.

The following options can be used to identify yourself:

You can complete the identification process from the comfort of your own home online in Meine SBK. The easiest way to do this is in the Meine SBK app. You will be guided through the process step by step.

Not using Meine SBK yet? Then download the app now and get yourself registered. 

You can also verify your identity at your local SBK branch.
You simply need to arrange an appointment with your personal consultant. You can find the contact details you need in the consultant search.

Please bring your identity card, passport or residence permit and your most recent SBK healthcare card to your appointment.

Would you like to use the SBK electronic patient record (ePA)? Then you can verify your identity in the electronis patient record app as well. You will find more information here

After successful identification, your PIN and PUK will be created and sent to your home by post within 2 weeks. 

Important note

Please keep the PIN in a safe place, as only one PIN can be issued for the SBK healthcare card at any one time. If you lose your SBK healthcare card or the associated PIN, you will need a new card. As soon as you have received the new SBK healthcare card and noted this in Meine SBK or the SBK electronic patient record app, you will automatically receive the new PIN by post within 2 weeks.

Changing your PIN

You can change your PIN yourself at any time – directly in these apps:

SBK electronic patient record app (in German only 'SBK Patientenakte')

→ 'Profil' (profil) → 'Ihr Name' (your name) → 'PIN der Gesundheitskarte ändern' (change healthcare card PIN)

e-prescription app (in German only, 'E-Rezept-App')

→ 'Einstellungen' (settings) → 'Wunsch-PIN wählen' (select desired PIN).

Requirements for changing the PIN:

  • CAN/access number (6-digit number at the top of your SBK healthcare card)
  • Current PIN
  • Once you have entered this data, you can set a new 6- to 8-digit PIN of your choice.

    Frequently asked questions on PIN and PUK for the SBK healthcare card

    Do you still have your PUK? Then you will find the answer under ‘Is your PIN blocked?’

    You no longer have your PUK? Then you need a new SBK healthcare card, because there is only one PIN and PUK for each SBK healthcare card. If you lose your PIN and PUK, you can request a new SBK health card in Meine SBK.

    Request a new SBK healthcare card


    The new SBK healthcare card will be sent to you within 14 days. 
    You will receive the new PIN by confirming receipt of the SBK healthcare card in Meine SBK or the SBK electronic patient record:

  • log in.
  • enter the last 6 digits of the card's identification number.
  • you will receive a new PIN letter by post within 14 days.
  • The request does not appear? An active SBK account with two-factor authentication is required to enter the last 6 digits of the card identification number. If only one-factor authentication is stored for the SBK account, i.e. the one-time identification during device registration has not been successfully completed, this input option will not appear. If you would still like to receive the PIN/PUK, identify yourself using one of the secure identification options or contact the Meine SBK support team. 

    Yes, you can assign yourself a 6- to 8-digit PIN of your choice at any time.

  • In the SBK electronic patient record app under “Profil” (profil) → ”Ihr Name” (your name) → ”PIN der Gesundheitskarte ändern” (change healthcare card PIN)
  • E-prescription app under “Settings” → “Select desired PIN”
  • The following are required:

  • CAN/access number (6 digits, front of the SBK healthcare card) and
  • Your initial PIN from the PIN letter.
  • If you have entered your PIN for your SBK healthcare card incorrectly too often and blocked it as a result, you can unlock it with your PUK:

  • in the SBK electronic patient record app
  • in the gematik e-prescription app
  • in the doctor's surgery
  • If all three of the above options do not work or you are missing your PUK, you will need a new SBK healthcare card, as the PIN can only be issued once for each SBK healthcare card. You can request a new card in Meine SBK. You will then receive the new SBK healthcare card within up to 14 days. 

    Request a new SBK healthcare card

    As soon as you receive a new SBK healthcare card, the previous PIN is invalid. 
    You can obtain the new PIN for the new SBK healthcare card by confirming receipt of the card in Meine SBK or the SBK electronic patient record:

  • Please log in.
  • Enter the last 6 digits of the card's identification number.
  • You will receive a new PIN letter by post within 14 days.
  • Secure identification is a prerequisite for issuing the PIN for the SBK healthcare card. Children under the age of 16 must be identified at the SBK office.
    As a parent or legal guardian, please bring the following documents with you: 

  • ID or SBK healthcare card of the person with parental authority,
  • Birth certificate of the child and
  • SBK healthcare card of the child
  • After identification, you will receive an activation code for your child. Enter this code in the SBK electronic patient record app or in Meine SBK (can be used from the age of 15). The app can then be used in full and you will receive the PIN for your child's SBK healthcare card by post within the next 14 days. 
    Alternatively, if you only want to use the gematik e-prescription app for your child, the PIN will be initiated directly at the SBK office and you will receive it by post within 14 days.
