SBK electronic patient record (ePA)

Your health information at hand at all times

The electronic patient record (ePA) stores all your important health data securely and digitally. This means you always have all the information about your health, such as doctor's letters, medication plans and findings, with you. With us, this is possible in the SBK Patientenakte app with e-prescription function. You can also share your data with doctors' surgeries, pharmacies or hospitals, for example. You decide who can see your data.

  • Quick emergency help, because all the important information is immediately at hand.

  • What is the ePA?

The ePA stores all your important health data securely and digitally. This gives you access to doctor's letters, medication plans and findings at any time. You decide who you want to share your data with. You can easily keep the doctors treating you up to date by giving them access to your ePA.

The 'ePA für alle' (ePA for all) is part of the Digital Act and is intended to contribute to high-quality care and simple communication. To this end, the ePA already offers you a selection of functions. These will be continuously developed, improved and added to for you in the coming years.

You can already use these functions with the ePA

  • Save your own documents in one place

Managing the ePA for other people

As a parent, would you like to manage the ePA for your minor children or help others set up the ePA? Up to 5 people can be registered as representatives in the ePA app. These can be anyone with or without their own ePA app – relatives, friends, caregivers, and people insured by other health insurance companies. Important changes are documented so that it is always clear who has performed which actions.

You can create representation for your children in your SBK patient record app. Your children do not need their own ePA app for this.

Frequently asked questions about the ePA

Here you will find a selection of the most important questions on the ePA.

Two types of documents can be added to your ePA:

    1.    Medical information from your doctor
This includes, for example, your vaccination record, maternity log, medication plan, dental bonus booklet or emergency data. These important documents are uploaded directly to your ePA by medical professionals. This ensures that your health data remains up to date and secure – and you can view it at any time. Only your doctor can make changes or additions to this data.

    2.    Documents that you can upload yourself
These include doctor's letters, findings or other health records that you may have received from your doctor in paper form. With the SBK patient record app, you can easily add these documents yourself so that everything is bundled in one place.

You can grant the treating practice access to your ePA. To do this, insert your SBK healthcare card into the reader. The practice will then be authorised to access your ePA for a period of up to 90 days.

You can terminate this access early via your SBK patient record app or set a period that exceeds 90 days. This is useful, for example, for your own GP practice.

You can track all activities in your ePA. For maximum transparency, all accesses and access attempts to the file are logged. This information is either available via the SBK patient record app or will be provided to you on request by our ombudsman's office, the SBK patient record support team.

To object to the creation of the ePA, please click here.

The SBK patient record desktop app can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Store and the Mac App Store.

The following technical requirements must be met in order to use the app:

Operating system: Windows 11 and macOS 14 (Sonoma) or higher are supported. The app cannot be used on modified systems (e.g., “jailbroken”).

Registration: The SBK health care card with PIN and a compatible card reader are required for access. Tested and recommended devices include the REINER SCT cyberJack RFID Standard, CHERRY Smart Terminal ST-2100, and IDENTIV SPR332 v2.0.

Since end of August 2025, you will be able to contact medical practices via the TI Messenger – provided that they have set up the TI Messenger service and enabled message reception in their settings.

By the way: From the beginning of 2026, you will also be able to communicate with us via TI Messenger. Further information will follow.

    Informations to download:
