We are also available around the clock when you’re out and about – through your personal online self-service branch Meine SBK.

All of this is included in your tariff. Your contribution amount depends on your income. You basically only pay contributions for health insurance if your training salary exceeds €325.

The contribution rate for statutory health insurance is currently 14.6% and the additional contribution for SBK is 1.7% – making 16.3% altogether. As of 1 January 2019, the entire 16.3% is split between you and your employer, so each of you pays 8.15% of your gross salary.

Your employer’s contribution is automatically deducted from your salary, so you can lean back and relax and don’t need to worry about anything else.

Frequently asked questions about insurance cover for trainees

Yes, trainees are considered employees and must therefore get their own insurance. Your employer will cover half of the contributions for you. We’ll be happy to explain how you can get health insurance and help you with the first steps of getting your insurance.

In short, social security comprises five different areas. In addition to health insurance, there is also accident insurance, nursing care insurance, pension insurance and unemployment insurance. As a result, social security covers a lot of topics in the areas of workplace accidents, nursing care and unemployment.

As a trainee, you are especially vulnerable from a social security perspective and therefore are required to get social security cover – and this applies regardless of whether you receive a salary or not, by the way. In the case of trainees receiving a salary of €325 or less, the employer will cover the full costs of social security.

The statutory contribution rate is 14.6% and the additional contribution for SBK is 1.7% – making 16.3% altogether. As of 1 January 2019, the entire 16.3% is split between you and your employer, so each of you pays 8.15% of your gross salary.

Here’s a small sample calculation: if your income is €600 per month, with SBK you pay €48.90 as a contribution for your health insurance. The contribution is directly deducted from your employer, so you do not have to worry about anything. With a small contribution, you get all-round protection and can enjoy great services and benefits.
