Electronic health care card

It’s easy to access all services with the SBK health care card.

This card unlocks it all: with it you can access all services – from doctors, recognised therapists and hospitals. The health care card has an encrypted chip with all important data such as first name and surname, gender, date of birth, address and insurance number.

To ensure that your electronic health care card is better protected against misuse, customers over the age of 15 receive a card with a photo. Insured persons who cannot submit a photo for health reasons receive a card without a photo. This might be, for example, someone who is unable to care for themselves and not mobile. The Braille lettering helps those who are blind or visually impaired.

Integrated European Health Insurance Card

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for use abroad is integrated on the back of the electronic health care card. The EHIC is valid in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (southern part), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, United Kingdom

‘We’ve put the European Health Insurance Card on the back of the electronic health care card. With it, you have basic insurance cover in most European countries. For optimal protection abroad I recommend getting overseas travel insurance as well. If you have any questions on this or about your stay abroad, we will be happy to advise you on 0800 072 572 570 90 (free of charge within Germany).’
